This session will introduce several new features available with V5R4 such as: support for PHP, a 32-bit JVM, Enterprise Extender and iSCSI, as well as enhancements in WDS with HATS, iSeries Access for the Web and more. We will also review enhancements to Backup and Recovery such as Virtual Tape, tape encryption, spool file management, LPAR technology, System firmware management, the HMC (Hardware Management Console) and new options for i5/OS console choices.
Allyn Walsh has over 30 years working in the IT industry and he has been at IBM Rochester working with the AS/400/iSeries since 1991. Job roles have included working in Level 2 and the Support Center, PartnerWorld for Developers and currently assigned to the Americas Advanced Technical Support (ATS) organization. Focus areas include Hardware Management Console, POWER5 firmware, System Management and High Availability. He has published a number of articles and IBM internal documents on HMC, system firmware and Systems Management topics. He is a regular speaker at iSeries Technical Conference and User Groups. Prior experience includes extensive work in the areas of hardware, data communications, LPAR and operations.
