The WDSc is much hyped as the development environment of choice. But for various reasons, a majority of programmers continue to use the green screen. And with the right tools, tips, and techniques, green screen programmers can be more fun and much more productive. If you do RPG programming on a PC running Client Access, you can turn your green screen world into all the colors of the rainbow.
By the end of this session, attendees will:
Know how to create personalized shortcut commands
Know how to turn the SysRqs line into a command line that lets you run any command, any time, even while a programxxc is looping!Know how to organize a complex desktop so that oodles of tasks can be active with quick and easy access
Understand how colorizing source code can greatly improve readability and increase productivity
Be able to quickly insert color attributes in source code using keyboard shortcuts
Have a free tool to instantly convert a legacy RPG source member to RPGLE that is fully modernized with color, mixed case, proper ENDxx opcodes, and comments matching ENDxx with their IF, DO, etc.
Speaker: Greg Veal, CSP, PMP
Greg Veal has nearly thirty-five years experience as an information technology professional including more than twenty-five years on the IBM System/38 through System i platforms. He has participated in all facets of the application development life cycle and holds two professional certifications: a Certified Systems Professional certification from ICCP (Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals) and a Project Management Professional certification from PMI (Project Management Institute).
Greg has taught classes on RPG and CL programming, SQL, Performance Tuning, Security, AS/400 Work Management, and AS/400 Application and Database Design. As an author and technical editor for Midrange Magazine, he has published numerous articles pertaining to AS/400 programming and system management and authored the popular text, CL Programming for the AS/400. Greg has lectured widely in the US and Australia on many aspects of AS/400 application development and management. He is a staff speaker for RPG World Developers’ Conference and a regular speaker at the COMMON national conferences at which he served for three years as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the Business Intelligence course of study.
Greg is president of Greg Veal Consulting, Incorporated, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. He provides systems architecture and development services and specializes in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence solutions.
